I guess technically it's not really a portrait since no photo-reference was used. I made it all up, so it shouldn't be catagorized as a portrait, although it was my intention to make it look like one.

ANYWAY, I started out with pencil on paper and colored in Painter 9. I had to brighten it in photoshop to compensate for windows users who have much darker moniters than the Mac OS, so it looks very slightly different than I intended it to. No biggy though.

It's a fantasy portrait, so she's not wearing anything that is supposed to really represent the old japanese era garments/clothing. Just all for looks.

Daily Deviation, 2006-07-13

Daily DeviationPortrait painting by ~ChristmasSocks caught my eye while I was checking their gallery after reading the suggestion note. The lighting grabbed me instantly because it has a nice candle glow, or a warm sunset on the face feel. Beyond that, the clothing is unique and the collar has a very realistic leather look to it. A lot of elements blended together into one great painting. Well done. (Suggested by ~tomoe2005 and Featured by `Aeires)

I adore everything about this. @_@ All the nuances and shades and colors, the distinction between soft and hard shadows, the absolutely MESMERIZING eyes, and the hair and the EVERYTHING.

You are seriously such an incredible artist. ;3; Somehow I missed this when creeping through your gallery before and found it in somebody's favorites (only to think, "Hey, I just watched that guy!"), and just, good god. What gorgeous, gorgeous attention to lighting - the subtle shades, like the grey-purples under the chin and the shadows cast by the collar... And the rich colors and warm pinks in the face are just beautiful. I love her eyes as well, especially the soft strokes you used on her eyelashes. I have a hard time drawing myself away from them, which is interesting as I'm not used to pupil-less eyes being so expressive. And the details in her headband up there are OMFG the patience and the wonderful level of background beauty it adds! :'3 Fantastic work! <3
